AYSO Region 92: El Segundo

2023 FALL PROGRAM

The fall program is the primary soccer program/season for AYSO in El Segundo. It runs from early September (usually the first Saturday after Labor Day) through Thanksgiving week, with playoffs in December for 10U division and up.  Registration is generally done in April/May and volunteer coach and referee recruiting/training occurs all summer long.  The Schoolyard program ends with a potluck on the second Saturday in November.

For 6U and above, players are randomly distributed into balanced teams using an automated system.  Player and coach requests are not allowed.  For the Schoolyard program, see specifics below.

Note: Players cannot wear jewelry when playing or practicing for soccer so parents are advised to not get their child's ears pierced during the late summer/fall season. Coverage with a band-aid is not allowed.  All jewelry must be removed prior to play.

The entire AYSO program is run by volunteers so it is encouraged that everyone step up to help out with a role.  No previous soccer experience is necessary.  We strongly encourage parents to sign up as coaches and referees to make our program more robust - additional open roles are located on the board members page of this website.  Please let us know how you can help.

AGE GROUPINGS

Here is the current age determination chart:

The effective date of age determination for registration shall be the player's age as of December 31 looking ahead of the Membership Year.
Example: For MY2023 the division the child will be placed in will be determined based on their age as of December 31, 2024. This age determination does not apply to Playground or Schoolyard division.

Region 92 has programs for the following age groups in our fall program:

  • EPIC (VIP)
  • Schoolyard
  • 6U, 7U, 8U
  • 10U, 12U, 14U

REFEREES

Our program REQUIRES that we have volunteer referees for 10U through 14U.  All teams must provide parent referees! There is scoring system for every game a referee calls.  Every team is required to acquire the minimum referee points to participate in post season playoffs. NO MATTER the team rank or record, each team must meet the referee points minimum to make the playoffs.

  • 10U teams - 20 points
  • 12U Teams - 24 points
  • 14U Teams - 24 points

Get the details at Team Referee Program.

Brett Field at Recreation Park (Schoolyard, 6U, and some 10U/12U games)
Richmond Field (8U)

Other fields may be added as needed.

PHOTO DAY

All registered players will get a team and individual photo.  Additional photos may be purchased as desired.  Photo day takes place at Library Park in El Segundo.  Photo date and times will be communicated when scheduled.  Players MUST come in full uniform, bring their completed photo day form (and payment, if applicable), and meet their teams at their designated times.  There will also be a makeup date for individual photos only - team photos will not be re-taken.  All times are assigned to ensure teams have their photos BEFORE their games and to avoid coach conflicts whenever possible.

Photo day is Sept 23.  ALL players must complete the photo order form, even if not buying anything additional.  Photo packets are available for pickup starting Thursday evening (9/14) at 1000 E. Walnut Ave. They will be left out through the weekend for pickup.

If you missed out, we are offering a make-up day on Wednesday, September 27th from 5-5:30pm at Library Park.  Make-up photos are for individual or buddy photos only.  We are NOT doing any team photos on Wednesday.

TEAM FORMATION

Once registration has closed, the team formation process will begin.  For all divisions 6U and up, the Blue Sombrero system will assign players to teams based upon previous year's ratings (or birthdays for 6U).  The system is designed to keep siblings together and to distribute coaches and other volunteers across the teams.  We will not be granting coach/player pairing requests as this has been found to result in politics and unbalanced teams, violating a key AYSO philosophy.  You will find that meeting new coaches, players, and families is a wonderful part of the AYSO experience.

Region 92 utilizes a serpentine process.  Further details about how this system works can be found in the team formation policy document.

Teams will be announced in late August and players will be contacted by their coach at the email address provided during registration.

UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT

To participate in AYSO soccer, all players must wear shin guards at all times.  Soccer cleats are optional but recommended.

Uniforms consisting of a pair of black shorts, colored shirts and matching socks will be provided to each player.  Players must wear their uniforms to all games can can lose sportsmanship points for failure to comply.  Balls, cones, and first aid kits will be provided to all volunteer coaches and referee uniforms will be provided to all volunteer referees.  Uniforms will be distributed to each team prior to the first game.
